What is Evangelism?

God says in His Word, the Bible, that there are five ministerial offices or giftings:  Apostle, Prophet, Evangelist, Pastor and Teacher, “for the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ, till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ” (Ephesians 4:11-13).  The role of Evangelist is therefore to teach and train other saints, who have trusted in Jesus Christ alone as Lord and Savior, how to share their Christian faith so that more people might have the opportunity to put their own trust in Jesus.

Jesus tells His followers in Acts 1:8 that, after they have received the power of the Holy Spirit, they will be “witnesses unto Me in both Jerusalem and Judea, in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.”  As Chapter One of the Evangelism Book details, our call then as other followers of Jesus is to tell the story of what we have seen, heard, and experienced, of how Jesus has moved in our lives, so that an unbelieving world population might choose to put their own trust in Christ Jesus as Lord and Savior.
