Who We Are
Statement of Faith
“…and ye shall be witnesses unto Me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.” Acts 1:8b
Rev. Geoff Whitcomb and The School subscribe to what have historically been the fundamental tenets of the Christian faith, as summarized in the following modified version of The Nicene Creed:
We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, of all that is seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father; God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten not made, One in being with the Father. Through Him all things were made. For us men and our salvation He came down from heaven; by the power of the Holy Spirit He was born of the virgin Mary and became man. For our sake He was crucified under Pontius Pilate; He suffered, died, and was buried. On the third day He rose again in fulfillment of the Scriptures; He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and His Kingdom shall have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who is sent from the Father and the Son. With the Father and the Son He is worshipped and glorified; He has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one, holy, universal, and apostolic Church. We acknowledge the confession of one’s sins under the Lordship of Jesus Christ for their forgiveness. We look for the resurrection of the dead, to appear at God’s white throne judgment, and the life of God’s Kingdom to come for those who trusted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
Further clarifications and beliefs:
- Salvation, i.e. a relationship with God, can only happen by a person confessing Jesus the Christ as his Lord and Savior out loud, while believing in his heart that God raised Him from the dead (Romans 10:9-10).
- The universal Church is comprised of all of those who have ever so trusted in Jesus the Christ as their Lord and Savior, whether or not they are a part of an organized denomination, order, or congregation. The Church is not a building, but a “peculiar people” (I Peter 2:9) whose calling is to live lives of holiness, righteousness, justice, grace, mercy, and love, while sharing their Christian faith with others.
